This is Al, he's been a technician where I work since before I was born. On the pallet is his brand new 383 stroker.
His 50th birthday was this week, and his sister emailed us at work about a surprise party for him. I've never been to a surprise party, and he was legitimately surprised when we yelled it, so that was really cool in its own right. This gift though...
He has a 79 Z28 that he's owned since 82, but after he blew the engine years ago it's sat motorless in his driveway. He hasn't even touched the car in over a year since his mother passed away. He's had some bad luck like any of us, but he's also the kind of person who will help you out and then refuse payment. He's a great guy, but I suppose he doesn't always realize how much he means to people.
So his sister and his oldest son chipped in to buy him a brand new 420hp/460tq 383 stroker for his car. Watching him open the big box they had over this was incredible. He walked up the driveway to it and we told him there was a girl in it. So he lifts up the edge of the lid, peeks inside, says "there's no girl in there!" and closes the lid. We then watched his expression change when he realized what he had actually seen inside and he rips the box open. He hugged his son and they started to cry, it was really amazing to watch, I'm getting a bit choked up just thinking about it.
His best friend was in on the whole thing as well, and they were ralking on the phone after work a few days ago. Al had been getting his ass kicked by a car that day, and he was telling his friend how he hates cars and was just feeling down on himself. He even told him, "My Camaro is gonna rust and die just like me." Now he realizes how many people he had around him that wont let that happen.

With all the shitty news today in the car culture. This is awesome! I'm going to have my wife read this. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe this will gave her some birthday ideas, and hopefully I won't have to wait the 16 years to 50.

That made my day. Hell, it probably made my month. The fastest that I have ever driven was in a '79 Camaro so I have some pretty fond memories of a beast like that one.
